Title: Automatic Translation into Sámi Languages and How to Evaluate It

Abstract: we will present our work on Neurotõlge, an online machine translation system that supports translating from/into many Finno-Ugric languages, which includes several Sámi languages. We will give a general and easy introduction to how it works and what is needed to continue developing it, with a special focus on evaluating its reliability and quality. In the second part of the talk, we will focus more on the evaluating part, involving you, the audience, interactively. Our hope is to collect detailed feedback on how we can evaluate the quality of our systems so that the results would be as usable and reliable for its users as possible. 

Bios: Lisa and Mark are researchers from the TartuNLP group from the University of Tartu, Estonia. The group is behind developing the online translation platform Neurotõlge and the speech synthesis platform Neurokõne. The group's research projects include topics like machine translation into under-resourced languages, automatic speech synthesis, sign language generation and many more topics.
