We use three different terms for different types of matters:

1. Whistleblowing (Varsling)

Whistleblowing applies when something serious has occurred that is in breach of laws or generally accepted ethical standards.

Examples of matters that may be reported through the whistleblowing procedure include:

• A manager or lecturer abusing their position to harass or threaten a student or employee
• Corruption
• Sexual harassment

Employees and students have both the right and the responsibility to report misconduct or other serious concerns.

2. Non-conformities (Avvik)

A non-conformity is a situation that does not comply with our internal procedures or guidelines, or that may pose a risk to health, safety and the working environment (HSE).

Examples of non-conformities include:

• Discovering that the institution is not complying with GDPR requirements
• Teaching not being carried out as planned
• Someone slipping on a staircase and sustaining an injury

3. Observations and Improvements (Observasjon og forbedring)

You can submit an observation or improvement suggestion if you notice something that does not pose an immediate risk but could develop into a non-conformity. You can also submit a suggestion if you identify something that could be improved.

Examples include:

• Loose cables are frequently left on the floor in the building. No one has tripped over them yet, but this could happen. If someone trips and is injured, this would constitute a non-conformity.
• The university uses a large number of paper forms. Everyday processes could be made easier by using more digital forms.
• There should be more chairs in the group study rooms.

Report a Concern, Non-conformity or Observation, or Suggest an Improvement

It is helpful for the university to know who submitted the form in case further information is needed. However, you may also submit a form anonymously.

Report Concerns About a Student’s Suitability

Anyone who is in contact with students may report concerns about a student’s suitability. This includes academic staff, placement supervisors, other professional staff, administrative staff and fellow students.
