Eatnama Mánát Skuvlema Bálgáid alde: Strengthening Sámi Children’s Identity and Resilience by Transforming Educational Institutions

Research project "Eatnama mánát" has been funded by the Norwegian Research Council. The aim of the project is to critically examine, describe, and analyse the practices of Sami pedagogical and didactic practices. The researchers shall, in collaboration with the teachers, identify the Sami pedagogical and the teaching professional perspectives in a Sámi education context. Methodically, a school-ethnographic method will be used, and the basis for the project will be dialogue and collaboration with teachers in kindergartens and elementary school as an action research model.

The purpose of this research project is to explore approaches to transform and reshape Sámi educational methodologies in Sámi ECEC, primary school, and teacher education such that they strengthen Sámi children’s identity and resilience. The research project aims further to study reconciliation at the level of national education, Sámi and Indigenous rights, and sustainability.

The research project will be led by Ylva Jannok Nutti in collaboration with Marikaisa Laiti and Rauna Rahko-Ravantti. The project will involve Sámi and Indigenous researchers with specific experiences who will participate in the producing of research results and support the research as a reference group.

The project's projecting period is 2025-2029.
