Jan Henry Keskitalo is Sámi University College's first rector, from 1989 to 1996. Keskitalo was bron in 1946 and is from Guovdageaidnu.

Ole henrik magga

Born in Ávževuopmi (in Guovdageaidnu). Ole Henrik has worked, among other places, at the Sámi Institute, at the University of Oslo and the Sámi University College as a researcher and professor. Magga has also been, among other things, chaired by the Sámi language committee, Norwegian Sámi National Federations chairman and runner to become the president of the Sámi Parliament, as Guovdgeaidnu's municipal council member and as the leader of the UN's indigenous peoples forum. Now he is a member of the Finnmark Commission.

ANDREAS MIKKELSEN

Andreas Mikkelsen is a Associate Professor at UiT Norway's Arctic University. He completed a PhD degree at Nord University in business economics, where he majored in finance. The Sámi Parliament has appointed Andreas Mikkelsen as chairman of the Árran Lule Sámi Center from 2016 to 2019. 

 

                                                 

 


THE SÁMI EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHER EDUCATION STUDENTS (SMOA2017)

Ina Biret, Johan Eivind, Stigo, Máret Elle Ristiinná, Athalie, Silje, Inka and Máret Brita are the Sámi early childhood education students, in the MOA2017 group. They are now in the third and final year of this study. Last year, they Sámi Music Academy, in Utsjoki (Finland) where they recorded a son together with the SUAS' primary teacher education students and the Music Academy students. For the song, they made a music video, that is part of their DJH (duodji, juoigan ja hutkáivuohta/Duodji, joik and creativity) knowledge area oral exam presentation. They will be showing the music video at SUAS' 30yr anniversary.

 

                                                 

 

LAILA ALEKSANDERSEN NUTTI

Pedagogical lecturer at Sámi University of Applied Sciences' teacher education, the main assignments are tied to the preschool teacher education. Research interests are in Sámi pedagogy, joik in kindergarten, traditional knowledge and information in teaching and technological opportunities in teaching. Special assignments and interests are the voices of the Sámi children in teaching in Sápmi and wider community, as well as collaborations with other indigenous people in the field of teacher education.

RAIMO VALLE

Raimo Valle is form Nesseby, but also has roots on the Finnish side. He has worked with Sámi affairs throughout his adult life. He has, among other things, been chairman of the Tromsø Sámi union NSR, board member of the Center for Sámi Studies at UiT, group secretary at the Sámi Parliament for NSR, deputy representative for AP at the Sámi Parliament and State Secretary for Sámi Affairs from 2007-2012 for the AP. Since 1994 he has worked in various positions in Troms county municipality, where he is now a special adviser.

INGA HERMANSEN HÆTTA/HEIKO LEMET IŊGÁ

Inga Hermansen Hætta has grown up as a farmer in Guovdageaidnu. In her childhood, she participated in traditional Sámi work that consisted of small farming and food combinations, such as fishing, reindeer moss picking, the process of gathering and processing mustard grass, duodji, molding and so on. Duodji is an important part of her life, both in her spare time and at work. She has a master's degree in duodji and is the director at the Duodji Institute. She has worked hard for duodji to be a culture, business/livelihood, to be a subject and a school subject.  

 

                                                 

 

ÁSLAT HOLMBERG

The schoolteacher Áslat Niillas Áslat and Joovnâš Ailâ Niillas Áslat, Áslat Holmberg, is from Njuorggán in Tana valley. He is at least a salmon fisher, a pilitician, ČSV (passionate about the Sámi) and activist, and from 2017 he has been the Vice President of the Sámi Council. He has completed teacher education at Sámi University of Applied Sciences and a master's study of indigenous people in Tromsø. He travels a lot around the world at various events where indigenous cases are being handled. Now he works at the University of Lapland as an secretary for the Sámi research ethical review workgroup and he also works with various freelance assignments.

Marja-Kristin Skum, from Gávtjávri (in Ammarnäs) from Swedish side of Sápmi. She is working on a PhD project in sociolinguistics.

When I learned Sámi, it became possible to travel in history and get to know my ancestors - raising the indigenous people's perspective and a personal view on SUAS' important work with language.
