Norwegian Embassy in Argentina celebrates Nordic research cooperation
Nordic research cooperation in human rights education (HRE) is celebrated at a special event at the University of Buenos Aires on 26 November, sponsored by the Royal Norwegian Embassy of Argentina. Assistant Professor of Education, Inger Elisabeth Utsi Gaup, has together with colleauges Pigga Keskitalo, Satu-Marit Korte and Sylvia Moore, contributed to the publication of the edited volume Nordic Perspectives on Human Rights Education: Research and Practice for Social Justice. Gaup and colleagues´ chapter highlights the importance of land-based education for ensuring indigenous rights through teacher education.
In Buenos Aires, Norwegian Ambassador, Halvor Sætre is joining editors Beate Goldschmidt-Gjerløw (UiA) and Professor Audrey Osler (USN), representatives of the Finnish and Swedish embassies, and leading Argentinian scholars to debate the book’s international significance.
- Our starting point in Sámi teacher education is to rethink teaching and learning, so that our students enjoy a culturally responsive teacher education programme. This is essential for ensuring Indigenous rights principles in their everyday practice as future teachers, says Elisabeth Utsi Gaup.
Nordic Perspectives on Human Rights Education is the first book to discuss human rights education across all five Nordic countries. It is ambitious in its scope, addressing institutional support for HRE in the region and the ways in which the links between Nordic identity and human rights can simultaneously aid and undermine educational initiatives for human rights.
